INSTALLATIONS AND INTERVENTIONS

My practice has involved collaborative and solo projects involving creative mindfulness and wellbeing walks which incorporate shared experiences, food and temporary, site specific interventions. Over the last 6 years I have been part of the Deep Roots tall Trees Choir and have been part of the Ring of Fire Song Writing Group. Corby the former Steel Town and New Town Renewed had been a constant presence and inspiration. This fusion of voice and text, place and presence has now become embedded in my ideas for future solo projects which will EnCompass new and existing elements of my practice.

OUR ALLOTTED SPAN

Working on four previously pre-felted samples I created two lengths of felt and fabric. Textures and layers inspired by explorations of Cape Cornwall hedgerows, walls, rocks, shoreline, sea and boulders. Thinking about time, layers, strata, mortality, loss, legacy, hard facts, soft wrappings. The piece was installed in and on St. Helen's Oratory and around and on Brisons Veor - both sets made under very windy conditions. Also made in memory of Joan and Alick Rushton who are represented by each length. I was assisted by their son Andrew, my partner, we remembered their union, their lives and the complexity of all human relationships. We made our final temporary installation on the bench we sat on and looked out to sea, we thought of the two of them sitting together, look out to the horizon and listening to the conversations of wind, waves and birdsong.

A NEW DEVELOPMENT, WRITING SONGS WITH BARB JUNGR 
AS A MEMBER OF  RING OF FIRE SONG WRITING GROUP
FOR DEEP ROOTS TALL TREES CHOIR

Ring of Fire worked with Barb Jungr and musicians to create four songs exploring the lives celebrated by the recently restored Montagu Monuments. WINNER OF BEST EVENT IN A HISTORIC HOUSE 2016, NORTHAMPTONSHIRE HERITAGE FORUM.

Ring of Fire also worked with Barb Jungr and musicians creating a song cycle celebrating some of the trees found in the ancient woods of Corby which were performed during the Our Woods festival Finale, Dreaming Our Woods. We are now working with a selection of other tutors writing songs as part of the Changing Corby Project, also for Deep Roots Tall Trees.
